Flattering Swimwear for Your Body Type
I always feel like the swimwear that I’m most drawn to, is the exact style that is least flattering on my body. How ironic. It’s sort of like, having curly hair, but always wanting straight. It’s just not what you’ve been blessed with. And it’s time we embrace what we do have going on and work it! Have a big booty? You go girl! Booties are in. Have a small chest? I have a trick to make it appear a full cup size bigger. Have a thick waist, like me? Luckily, bathing suit trends are totally working with apples this year. You can get all the different styles from DressLily.
Let’s first address a small chest. It used to be thought that a small chest was a curse. I say, it’s a blessing. Clothing tend of fit overall, better when you don’t have two large breasts disproportionately taking over your torso. If you’ve learned to embrace your small chest, then you go girl. If you’d like to make your chest appear bigger, whether it’s to balance our your bottom half, or it’s just what you prefer, then find a style that has embellishment. The swimsuit above is a perfect example of adding volume to a smaller chest with a ruffle.
Don’t forget a fun, flirty cover-up. This octopus cover-up is universally flattering on all body types, because of the wrap style. It wraps around the back and loops through your arms to create a perfect silhouette for any shape. Plus, it allows room for that ruffle top or even ties on your hips. The best part of a wrap cover-up is that it can go from beach, pool, lunch, party, etc. Wear it as a dress with a pair of black sandals, just don’t forget to pin the bottom so it doesn’t fly open and expose your undergarments.
Next up, the apple. That’s my body type to a T. I have thin legs, arms and as soon as I gain a pound, it goes straight to the middle of my body. It’s partly genetics, partly food and beverage. Traditionally, this has been the most difficult season for apples. Summer is like a curse. The slinky summer dresses, crop tops and bikinis are a nightmare for an apple. Luckily, looser options with tummy coverage have become increasingly popular. Consider a tankini. Any style bottom that fits we will work, but then the top is where your focus should be. Make sure it fits your chest right. I have wide-set breasts, so a halter style is the most flattering. Brings the girls up and in! I prefer a looser fit around the waist, like the tankini pictured above. It’s perfect for hiding my tummy and doesn’t pinch or squeeze, so I can be active and comfortable.
Lastly, remember a really easy cover-up for any body style. A wrap cover up is going to work for everyone. It creates a cinched waist. The deep V in the front creates a perfect shape for the chest. And depending on your desired coverage, a long skirt offers plenty of coverage for going on and off the beach or pool. A straw hat and a pair of flip flops and you’re ready for summer. You can get all these incredible looks at DressLily.
