End of Summer Must-Haves

I can’t believe that August is almost here. This summer has been different (to say the least). I spent the first half of the summer trying to get the quarantine weight off. So that I could put a bathing suit on and get a tan. I’m at the “tankini phase” of whatever, and it’s already August. I better whip myself into shape! And by shape, I mean using tricks of the trade to appear long, lean and sun kissed. All from DressLily. Use code: DLBF20 with 20% OFF.

For starters, how about that gorgeous quad powder compact above? As I get older, I lose definition and plumpness around my cheeks and eyes. To help appear like I’ve just walked off the beach, a shimmery pallet is all you need. I start with the lightest shade and sweep it (with my finger, which never fails me) along my cheek bone, along my brow bone and collar bone and dab a dot on the inner corners of my eyes. The blush goes exactly where you’d normally blush on your cheeks. Essentially on the apples, not too low. because that’s a quick sweep of the bronzer in the shallows of you cheeks and below your jaw line. These subtle strokes will give you definition and the appearance of summer skin.

Speaking of putting makeup on, don’t forget you’re just going to put a mask on top of it at some point, if you’re going out. I know. It sucks. It’s hard to breath, it’s hot, it gives me anxiety. I get it. But if you must wear one, at least have a cute one, right? My son wears a fishing neck wrap that he can pull up anytime he needs to. It’s great not to have to constantly remind him to find his mask. Luckily, they have styles for ladies too. This black and white butterfly scarf hangs loosely around your neck, but pulls up easily to transform to a mask. Easy way to stay safe.

Jewelry is one of the most universally defining pieces in your wardrobe. You literally can change a look completely with dramatically different jewelry. For me, I like to keep my jewelry simple, so it can go with almost anything. Like this silver necklace, that has a choker and a Y-shape strand. It fits almost any neckline and has the perfect balance of statement and simplicity.

Lastly, basics. They’re kind of everything right now. Like this simple button down black A line dress. By itself, it’s pretty basic, but worn with a pair of white sneakers and a cross body bag and it’s “all day”. Want to take it to night? Just throw on a pair of white booties or black sandals and some bold earrings and it transforms, just like that. When it comes to basics, make sure they match. Usually staying within one color pallet will do the trick. Then buy lots of pieces within that pallet and you can mix and match to create lots of looks.
