Fall Trend: Leather

Have you been shopping lately? If you have, you must have noticed that leather is like, seriously trending. We’re talking head to toe, leather. Shoes, pants, skirts, tops, jackets, hats… all leather. And let’s get one thing straight, most of it IS faux leather. Real leather can be super expensive, so if you’re seeing a pair of leather leggings at Express, most likely they are faux.

There’s actually many advantages to faux leather. For example, real leather has zero stretch, it can be really hard (it softens over years of wear) and believe it or not, can be really cold, unless layered. But faux leather tends to have a bit of stretch to it (like in the pants I’m wearing above), it’s buttery soft AND it’s lined with fleece or nylon.

So, the real question: IS the leather trend wearable and will the trend last?

YES! The leather trend is totally wearable. Especially faux leather. If you’re not ready to go head to toe leather, a few ways to ease into the trend are leather boots, leather leggings or a leather shacket.

Choosing one leather piece is a great way to ease yourself into the trend. If you start getting compliments galore, up your game and go for some leather pants or a leather blazer. Have fun with colors and textures.

So, now you’re asking, is the leather trend here to stay? Ummmm… honestly, it’s impossible to predict what’s going to “have a moment” and what’s going to be worth investing in. I think you should focus on the word “trend” and treat your leather investments so. Here’s how:

Go “low” with your leather pieces. My leather pants AND my leather sneakers in the picture up top are both from Walmart. That’s right, Walmart. The pants are Madden NYC and only put me back $23.50. The white leather sneakers are from the men’s department (I have big feet, to hold up my six foot frame) and were under $20.00. That way, if the trend does disappear in the Spring (like I predict it will, due to the fact that leather is a cold weather trend), it won’t break your heart.

If you love my look, the cropped sweater is from H&M and was only $12.99!
