Consultations are Rolling in!

The month of December was filled with Holiday parties and distributing Gift Cards. It’s debatable whether or not I do it correctly, but for me and my business, I issue Gift Cards for free, and charge the Gift Giver after services are rendered. I’ve never been burned, but there has been a few occasions where the gift cards were never redeemed. So, the question is… Should I pre-charge the Gift Giver for the Gift Card? I still stand by, NO. If I issue a three hour Gift Card to a Client and they need five hours of service, that limits how much money I can make. That’s foolish. Might as well maximize the potential income and risk the chance of them redeeming.

With all of that said, the Gift Cards are rolling in! And so are the Consultations. A Client Consultation is always FREE and are done to determine a Client’s needs, goals and budget. Ultimately, a Consultation is done in your closet. After a brief sit down so I can establish report with the Client, we move to the closet to examine (zero judgement on how clean or organized your closet is) their sizing, what should stay and what should go and what services they would most benefit from.

Sometimes I’ll recommend to start with Organizing the Closet. This process involves the Client and I weeding out pieces that are no longer serving the Client and determining where there may be gaps. I’ve organized a Client’s closet before where they didn’t own one pair of pants. Pants! We live in Maine. You need pants, people. Once the Client and I decide on which pieces are missing, I’ll recommend going shopping together to get the right pieces.

Of course there’s always a Client that isn’t comfortable with me coming into their home. I completely understand. A person’s home and especially their closet is a very personal thing and not everyone wants a stranger coming in and telling them how to live. Let’s meet for coffee, or on your lunch break at your job. That way the Client is comfortable in their environment and I can always give them a couple assignments where they can send me pictures of pieces they own that they want to build on. I even had a Client once, that threw everything she owned away (she was going through a divorce and moving) and she wanted a completely new wardrobe. She was actually a lot of fun.

So, don’t be intimidated to book a Wardrobe Consultation. It’s free and there’s zero obligation to move forward right away, or at all. Although don’t drag your feet too long. In my line of business, when it rains it pours and after 12 years of doing this, I still haven’t been able to pinpoint any type of seasonality to when I’m the most busy. It comes in waves and changes every year, so don’t be surprised when I’m booking out 1-2 months in advance. Shoot me an e-mail: Chelseakray@gmail.com if you like to book a Consultation and be sure to browse my website: Chelseakray.com for rates, business hours and service descriptions.

Staying true to not buying any new clothes or accessories in January, I’m wearing pieces I already own. The black leather moto jacket is BAR III from Macy’s, the green sheer dress is Intimately Free People from Poshmark, the jeans are Skyskrapers from EXPRESS and the black leather boots are Steve Madden. I’m not including links, because all the pieces were purchased years ago and may no longer be available. I always recommend hitting up Poshmark when you’re looking for a discontinued style. I almost always have luck there. Use my code: CHELSEAKRAYFASH to get a discount off your first purchase.
