Stylish Ways to Tie Your Layering Piece
Spring is here and although days are warm, the mornings and evenings are cool. It’s important to always be prepared with a layering piece. Whether it’s a jacket, sweater, sweatshirt, you’ll be so happy to have it when the temps are low. But what about when it’s nice and warm and you don’t need that layering piece? We’ve all done it. You get warm, think you don’t need it anymore, so you toss it somewhere and one of two things happen. 1.) You immediately regret no longer having it because as quickly as it warmed up, it cooled off or, 2.) You leave it behind. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve left my layering piece behind at a cookout, baseball game or fire pit. You can only hope and pray it’s still there when you go back to get it.
There IS a very simple solution. Tie it on! Not sure which way to tie your layering piece? Don’t worry, I have three ways to look stylish, while being the ultimate Girl Scout and always being prepared. The first way is the tried and true, around your waist. This look has been around since before my lifetime and it’s still cool. One recommendation is to be sure to secure your layering piece by buttoning or zipping it up, so it doesn’t become too baggy. Choose where you would like to tie it, based on your comfort level. I prefer to tie a little lower on my hips, to avoid bulk around my waist.
Your second option is the ultimate preppy style: around the shoulders. This style originated at the Country Club and was associated with sports like tennis and golf. But now, it’s widely accepted and it the warmest option for tying your layering piece. I tend to wear this option for outdoor, daytime looks. I do recommend avoiding this style if your layering piece is bulky. Like a down jacket or a chunky sweater. It will create a top-heavy look and take away the balance of your outfit. The around the shoulders tie is perfect for light layers to keep your shoulders warm.
The last way to tie your layering piece is my new favorite. It’s very fashion forward and will instantly update your look. It’s the cross body tie and it’s not only comfortable, but it enhances your look by saying, I’m fashion forward. One sleeve goes over one shoulder (choose whichever is most comfortable) and then the other sleeve ties under your opposite arm. Tie the sleeves in the front of your chest and your layering piece goes everywhere you go… in style.
