Two Generations, Two Styles

I absolutely love highlighting how versatile one statement piece of clothing can be. Take this sparkly lilac crop top from H&M. Same top, two very different sizes and two completely different looks. Both, perfectly styled for any Holiday occasion.

I recently had the pleasure of showing off my “let me freshen this look up” skills for a friend. I was in my usual day look: black leggings, a cropped white tee, a multi colored shacket and white sneakers. My friend wanted to go out for dinner and we only had 20 minutes before our reservation. I told her, “give me five” and ran upstairs to work my magic. I swapped the sneakers out for white booties, traded the shacket for a faux fur coat, threw on a little jewelry and voila. Same outfit as before, with a couple slight changes in my accessories and I created a completely different look. That’s how you take something day to night.

With the sequin lilac crop top, I really wanted to let it be the star of the show. A light pair of straight jeans, cream booties and a fluffy cardigan (which is from the girl’s department at Target, by the way), allows the top to add color, texture and point of interest. Remember, always highlight what part of your body you DO like, and keep your clothing simple in the areas that you don’t. If your chest and waist aren’t areas that you like to highlight, I’d recommend not wearing a sparkly lilac crop top and draw the eye to your arms, legs, hips… Maybe a skirt with fringe, to show off your legs or a backless dress to create a little mystery. Make a statement piece work for you by letting it highlight what part of your body you want to show off.

I’m so excited that I get to be in another blog! Chelsea and I have been discussing doing a post together for a while, and I love how the photos came out!

I got to choose a sparkly top from H&M, and our task was to style them to show how two different generations work with it. I personally went a little bit out of the box, styling the sparkly purple top with a pink cropped blazer. I got this blazer while shopping on Newbury Street, from a small boutique that I stumbled upon. I immediately fell in love with the color of this jacket, along with the one pearl button on it. The sleeve length was perfect, and the cropped style opened up many layering opportunities for different outfits.

The blazer came with a matching skirt, but I decided to wear plain black jeans. These jeans fit me absolutely perfectly. They are the best length, not too long for my short legs, they actually accentuate them. The waist fits like a glove, and the best part is that they are thrifted! I highly recommend checking out the consignment shops in Bath, Maine.
