The Right Swimwear Silhouette
The secret to the right swimwear is two-fold. First, fit, then silhouette. When it comes to fit, if your swimwear is pulling, digging, riding, squeezing… It’s not the right fit. Your swimwear should lay like your undergarments. Secure and supportive. The key to a great fit is to not look at the tag. My bikini above is a small on top and a large on bottom. That’s a bit of a blow to my ego, but it’s just the way it fits. The top has an under wire, so it’s supportive. The straps are adjustable, to allow a little lift. And the tie in the front allows me to bring everything together to allow the tiniest cleavage (which I don’t normally have). When I tried the bottom on in a medium, my normal size, it dug into my love handles, which emphasized them. Luckily, the Rio cut bottom is small enough where sizing up was the perfect solution. And can we talk about the precious ruffle? This style was wildly popular in 2005 and us apples are thrilled to see it’s back. It creates some volume on my hips, so that my waist looks smaller. A perfect example of a great fit and great silhouette.
I know, I know. You’re saying, but I need a little more coverage and a little more support. Consider a low plunging one piece. The built-in cup pads and deep-v neckline on the bust of this swimsuit is incredibly flattering and will draw the eye right to your bust. This is a perfect silhouette for anyone who wants to draw attention away from their lower body. The dark color is flattering and the floral print is perfect for any shape or size, because it’s not too bold or too small.
Not completely ready for a bikini, but want to show a little more skin? Check out this head-turning one-piece that is incredibly flattering for most body shapes. The bottom goes high up on the hip, elongating even the shortest legs. The criss-cross in the front offers a little bit more coverage than a typical bikini and the adjustable top would work on almost any bust size. This is definitely one swimsuit I would recommend trying on. It’s very adjustable, so sizing up, might just be the right fit for anyone who isn’t petite.
Looking for full coverage for an active day of fun in the sun? I’m in love with the colors and print of this two piece set. The skirt with built-in bikini bottom offers full coverage of your bottom and upper thighs. The tank goes low enough to cover even your post mommy tummy and the unique square neck line is flattering and supportive. It has a built-in bra, so your bust will stay right where you want it, all day, while still allowing moderate sun exposure.
Speaking of sun exposure, I always recommend a rash guard for active and long days near the water. You can put it on and take it off anytime, but will give you the protection you need. I also tend to size up on my rash guard, to avoid any chaffing. All these swimsuits are available at Target.
