1 Look, 5 Ways: My Chic Little Secret

As promised, I’m on a mission to bring you chic and stylish tips and tricks, while saving you money and time. As a Wardrobe Consultant, one of the most common requests I get from Clients is to help them create a wardrobe that takes the guess work out of getting dressed everyday.

My first tip is to find a silhouette that fits your body type well. For me, it’s slim-fit pants (with stretch) and a hip grazing top. It’s my uniform. It’s flattering to my figure and the perfect palette to create limitless different looks with just one piece as the variable. That’s your layering piece.

Duster

The look above captures perfectly, my style uniform, but becomes so much more chic once I layer the black lightweight duster over it. The duster is by STYLUS, a line by JCPenny and I scored it on sale for $20. The duster elevates the basic look by elevating the level of style you are delivering on any day. Effortless and chic.

Denim

Next up, still my basic uniform that flatters my body, but making it a little more casual and weekend chic with my favorite denim jacket. A denim jacket is something I almost always recommend to my Clients. It’s extremely versatile and adds an element of cool style to any look. My denim jacket is from Burlington and it was also around $20.

Leather Moto

Want to add a little edge to your look? A leather moto will do just that. It takes my basic uniform from okay, to, “Let’s go out tonight”. A pretty powerful piece, if you ask me. I recommend buying a leather jacket that offers comfort. A faux leather will offer the look of real leather, but the softness of a sweater. My BARIII faux leather jacket was bought from a second-hand boutique for around $30.

Blazer

Yes, you NEED a blazer. I have many blazers. Some very structured with buttons and shoulder pads. Some more soft and sheer with fun prints. Some cropped, some over sized. A blazer will instantly elevate any look, especially your basic uniform. The pants and top are fine on their own, but as soon as I layered this black and white open blazer, I feel confident. Dinner, business meeting, conference with your kid’s teacher, the blazer is the perfect chic layering piece. My blazer is from SHEIN and was part of a two piece set that was under $30.

Shacket

Lastly, Fall’s hottest trend, the shacket. It’s a hybrid between a shirt and a jacket and is suprisingly versatile. This one from H&M was under $20 and is the perfect piece to throw over almost any look. It pairs perfectly with my basic uniform, but I’ve even thrown it over denim, sweats, workout wear, bathing suits, etc. If you haven’t invested in a shacket, I highly recommend it.

Styling Tips

A couple styling tips to remember… Scrunch or roll your sleeves up just below your elbows. This will create a look of a smaller waist and hips and a longer torso. Plus, it’s a super chic way to look like you put a lot of effort into your look. Wear your layering piece open. It creates dimension and adds forgiveness where you want it the most. And finally, be sure your layering piece sits on the shoulders. If the shoulder seam is hanging off your shoulder, size down. If the armpit feels snug, definitely size up to leave room for your basic underneath.
